Starting the Investigation in Irondale
To begin this side mission, travel to Irondale in the Feldcroft Region and speak with Padraic Haggarty at his market stall. He explains that valuable coins and a prized heirloom have been missing after dark. Because the crimes occur exclusively under the cover of darkness, you must advance the time to night using the world map wait feature if you arrive during the day.
Preparing properly before setting off on the trail will ensure a smooth tracking experience. Make sure you have unlocked the Nab-Sack from Deek's main quest line, as it is required to complete the mission. Equipping control spells such as Glacius or Arresto Momentum will also make capturing the swift culprit much easier.
Following the Trail of Dropped Galleons
Once night falls, cast Revelio near Padraic's stall to reveal a glittering path of dropped gold coins leading out of the settlement. The trail winds through grassy hills and leads players west-southwest away from Irondale. Continue casting Revelio periodically to keep the coin markers illuminated before they fade from view.
Along the path, you may encounter a small enemy encampment housing a few Ashwinders. You can choose to engage them in combat for experience points or fly directly past them on your broom. Keep following the trail until it leads to a rocky hideout nestled near the hillside.
Capturing the Real Culprit and Finding the Heirloom
Upon reaching the cavern, you will discover that the true culprit is not Padraic's sister, but a greedy Niffler. Approach the creature quietly from behind and cast Arresto Momentum to slow its movement. Use your Nab-Sack promptly to safely secure the Irondale Pilferer.
Before returning to town, search the ledge directly above the den entrance to find the stolen Haggarty Family Heirloom. Retrieving this item ensures you receive full credit and maximum rewards from the vendor. Leaving without the heirloom will result in reduced dialogue options and lower compensation.
Completing the Quest and Claiming Your Rewards
Return to Irondale and report your findings to Padraic to conclude the investigation. Presenting the recovered heirloom brings immense relief to the merchant, clearing his sister's name entirely. You can choose to hand it over freely or politely negotiate for additional compensation.
Completing this quest grants 180 XP alongside the exclusive Niffler Mask cosmetic item for your gear collection. You also retain the captured Niffler, allowing you to care for it inside your Room of Requirement Vivarium. This rewarding side quest nicely combines detective work with beast rescue mechanics.
